Physical Description:
John is a sad pretty boy with dark eyes: smooth skinned and soft moused with a slightly-oversized nose and auburn hair that falls loose around his shoulders. He's taller than average, but short enough to blend: five foot ten or eleven, with a long torso and long arms. He's soft around the edges, kept thin through hungry, with elegant hands and careful, graceful movements. Usually, he wears turtlenecks in dark colors, layered ratty sweaters, slacks, thrift store leather jackets, dark green and rich navy and brown. Everything about him is quiet and slow, never frantic or high energy or stand-out.

Occupation: On the good days, John plays the piano: at the Nursing home, at a hotel. On the middling days, he plays the organ for the Presbyterian church. On a bad day, he buses tables or dishwashes.

Personality: It's hard to tell if John's melancholy grace comes from the fact that he's actually thoughtful and quiet and considerate, or if it's just that he cannot speak. Whatever it is, he has developed a true patience for dealing with the people around him, and a tendency to roll with the punches instead of bite back. He's quietly hard working, largely solitary, used to relying on himself and without any skill for finding new friends.

Backstory: John was young -- fifteen, in fact -- when he started in the Young Artists program at Juilliard. His main focus was voice, but he studied piano and guitar, and dabbled in a handful of other instruments. Once he graduated from high school, he moved into a full scholarship for a Bachelor of Music, focusing on vocals and composition. It was in his second year when his life was altered: his throat cut during a mugging left him voiceless, and the hospital bills left him broke. Since then, he's worked on finding place in the world, picking up jobs he could, playing music whenever possible.

About two years ago, he signed on to play guitar for a band on tour, leaving New York to explore the rest of the country. For eight months he lived out of a duffel bag and, ultimately, was left in St Ray at the end, finding a new life.
