Name: Ella Fran Barnett
Nicknames: Toxie-chan on Twitch and other social media sites, Tox for short
Birthday: November 1st, 1998
Pronouns/Gender: she/her
Physical Description: Ella is spindly and sickly, and it's difficult to tell if she has some condition or simply needs to touch grass. She is white, about 5'8", and thin to the point of underweight, though she often hides her figure with bulky gamer merch hoodies and loungewear. Wavy dark hair is unkempt, thick, and prone to frizz, and she keeps it as long as can be managed before it breaks off. Her eyes are tired, sleepy, a dark green dressed with deep bags underneath, her other facial features understated and soft. Chronically cold, she often carries gloves with her, or keeps her hands tucked away in her sleeves.
Occupation: Student (Computer Science, Almagest)
Personality: Ella is incredibly brilliant, has a sparkling with and with that she is also supremely lazy. She never does more than the bare minimum to achieve whatever is asked of her, and often thinks of creative workarounds to finagle her way out of tasks under the guise of unclear instructions or misunderstandings. She has little zest for the world and few passions, but nevertheless has her creature comforts, her gaming first and foremost among them. While gaming, she can get a sense of fulfillment for a skill set she has honed, play at positive social relationships, and overall escape to a varied and interesting life behind her screen. In the real world, Ella struggles to express herself, either shrinking away from encounters or working her crass internet vocabulary to her detriment. She's a romantic deep at heart, and very much craves attention from others, but she's also sensitive to the presence of crowds and significantly touch averse.
Ella wants to be a part of the world, but doesn't want this one, warts and all. With that in mind, she looks to her games to develop something she can live in, and holds that idle fantasy as motivation to get at least some work completed.
Backstory: Ella was the second child of a tech librarian and an engineer in upstate New York, and she grew up surrounded by gadgets and technology. She was a high-performing child in classes, but prone to sleepiness and napping during lectures. As she got older, her fatigue escalated to a point of medical concern, and at 11 what should have started as a standard general practitioner visit turned into a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and the first of many hospital stays. Five years, chemo, and a bone marrow transplant later, Ella was declared cancer free, much to everyone's surprise. She re-entered high school after being home-schooled for years, but continued to self-isolate given a reluctance to connect with her peers. She fell in love with online gaming, where no one knew her face or story and she could funnel all of her frustration and loneliness into killing minions or beating other nerds.
When the time came for college, Ella chose Almagest as a chance to get away from her parents and peers, where she could start over in a city where no one knew her story. But she's found that actually participating in society is more difficult than it looks, and she'd prefer to stay home next to her computer, which is a known and safe quantity. She's been in and out of classes for various forms of medical leave accommodations, but has reached the end of her department's goodwill. One way or another, she'll be leaving Almagest in a year's time.
